Simple client side form validation with a dash of AJAX

I've been reworking a couple of applications and wanted to clean up the form validation when I came across the Prototype Javascript Framework (http://prototype.conio.net/) and Script.aculo.us.  I wouldn't have gotten anywhere without the excellent demo and example from Andrew Tetlaw here:

http://tetlaw.id.au/view/blog/really-easy-field-validation-with-prototype/

It's really easy to implement - we're talking five lines of js, add class references to your form items - like class="required validate-number" and you're done!.

I found it instead very complicated as the 5 javascripts included are several hundreds lines of javascript functions from the Scriptaculous library and to grasp the whole working of the scripts requires reading loads of code.

Maybe I will some day study the Scriptaculous library but for now I prefer a more immediate ajax login like this one: particletree.com/.../degradable-ajax-form-validation
