  • Motorola Q - Hard Reset

So the Motorola Q is the hot new thing this week, and probably for some time to come!

How to do a hard reset (which will erase everything) on a Motorola Q

Select Start | System Tools | Master Reset

A couple of people have emailed me because they can't get into the Start menu on their phone to do the hard reset.  I spoke to Motorola technical support, and got an email from someone who has been working with pre-production Qs for 6 months, who both told me there is currently no other way to do a reset on the device, other than what I have posted above.  But it's definitely a "feature" that I hope will be incorporated into any future versions of the phone.

If you are having problems with your Q already (since they were just released a few weeks ago), don't be afraid to exchange it for a new one.

The Motorola Q tech support line that I called was 1-800-657-7576.

    3/1/07 - Update

A reader reports that a Master Reset can be done on the Motorola Q by pressing and holding the center navigation button and the red power button simulaneously at power up.  I don't have a Q here to test with, so give it a try and let me know if it works.

Thanks to redace for the tip!

  • Tell Outlook to stop Automatically capitalizing the first letter of every line!!

This is something that has bothered me for years.  So today a customer called in and asked how to make it stop, and I took the time to figure it out.  Now I want to pass along the info to get rid of one of those little annoyances in your day.

Using Word as your email editor in Outlook 2003 enables you to have a lot of options to nicely format your emails.  But by default, an auto-correct option is turned on that may drive you crazy. You may end up with an email that looks like this:

    Hi, Mom.

How was your day today?  I
Had a good day and have been
Working very hard to be the
    Best person I can be.

    Love, Son

Okay, so I'm weird to write something like that... but do you notice the first letter of each line is capitalized?  That's because I hit return at the end of the previous line and it counts this new line as a new sentence.

This is how to turn off this default behaviour.

In Outlook, open a new email message
Click in the main window of the new message (the body of the email)
Click on Tools | Autocorrect Options
Uncheck "Capitalize first letter of sentences"
    Click Okay.

That should take care of this unwanted "feature".
